+An hour later I went back and told the poor little clerks that it was no use—those two men wouldn’t agree. They greeted my remark joyfully. “Oh, no. You’re all wrong! Dr. ——— has been up and seen H——— and there wasn’t a cross word spoken and H——— has been down and signed the agreement!”
+I ought not to have been astonished. I ought to have known how it would turn out, after all I’ve seen and learned, but I was, and so pleased! Next day the druggists all held a meeting to arrange details, and I’m told that it was the only harmonious meeting they have ever had; that everybody agreed at once to everything that was proposed. And Sunday every drug store except one was closed. Furthermore, those clerks sent me the biggest and most wonderful box of candy I’ve ever seen. I’ve given away a good part of it, and am still suffering from what I was rash enough to eat.
+Well, I’ve tried to explain to those clerks and everybody else who congratulated me, that I had only a very small part in this episode; that I had powerful aid and was only a medium; but they don’t take it in, and if I told them in detail just what happened, they would merely stare for a moment and go on believing that it was merely because I “stood in” with those two men that they agreed.
