Suddenly and swiftly his call had come, far from the home-land, while conversing with a friend. Though blessed with parents who had given me the memory of a happy boyhood, and a home life of such harmony that it has ever remained my ideal, there came to me a poignant realization that no one could ever fill Uncle Peter’s place in my life.

Sharply etched in my memory I saw him once more as he was leaving on his last journey, outward bound for India. His seemingly indolent air belied the tall erect figure and the military swing of the shoulders as we slowly paced the deck together in the deepening dusk. Once more I saw the wise, large and deep brown; the dark hair on the shapely head, silvery, now on the temples. A sudden memory flash came now of those eyes which could blaze with such a magnetic intensity under stress of deep emotion; that to my boyish gaze he seemed like a veritable god, as he told me strange tales of ancient days and peoples. I visioned again the finely-shaped nose, the lean cheeks—etched by laughter and the weatherings of many Orient suns and sea winds, the firm, kind mouth and strong chin,—all these mingled in one unforgettable picture which seemed indissolubly blended with my own being.

THE KALEIDOSCOPIC flashes of earth memory ceased, and there, indeed, stood Uncle Peter.

With his arm about my shoulders in the old-remembered way, he drew me gently along the path. A deep, calm happiness filled my being; a certainty that now, indeed, all was well with me.

I realized then that I had not been hurled by the Titanic forces of war into a strange world, with only the vague promise of its realities that I had formerly possessed on earth to guide me. I sensed the truth; Uncle Peter, my boyhood’s dear companion and hero, was in reality my guide and protector in the realms of the world of Spirit. We were together, once more!

As we strolled along, gradually I seemed to lose the idea of walking, and felt we were “gliding,” a most pleasurable experience.

Many ideas, new to me, seemed to “flow” without the medium of speech from my dear Mentor, who, I soon learned, was in reality a Master, in a high spiritual sense. Having finished his work on earth, he was, to my inexpressible delight, to be my
