====== The Inner Life ====== == THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | APRIL 1935 == ---- countries and races. The school-books, histories and literature of all countries so teach us. But few realize that back of the publishing of books and other means of dissemination of knowledge are powerful, sinister minds, that from the very beginning of history have made it their business to see that the people of their countries are taught only those things regarding the causes, the need and the good of war, and only such other things, that they want men to believe. Up to recently men have allowed themselves to be led into believing that it is their sacred and patriotic duty to respond to their country’s need when called by their King or Ruler, and especially when a foreign army threatens their flag with war. And of course, if our country were attacked, who of us would be so foolish as not to resist with all the power and means at our command? Would any man allow his dear ones to be destroyed before his eyes without fighting desperately and doing everything possible to protect them? But we speak not of that, for we know human nature and the forces that rule it; and we fear not, when real danger threatens, what men will do—despite their pledges made in response to the emotional appeals of the misguided ones who are being used by the powerful minds above mentioned to accomplish their selfish ends. A glimpse of what are these ends can be gotten in what is being uncovered by the Senate Munitions Investigating Committee, now in session—but only a glimpse. A much clearer view can be gained from the report of the Congressional Committee Investigating Un-American Activities in the U. S., coupled with the reading of such books as Secret Societies and Subversive Movements, The Red Network, and Sinister Shadows.* Not that all that is stated in these books should be taken at its face value; but enough true facts can be gained by eyes not blinded by the sophistries and deliberate lies fed them by the many newspapers, magazines, books, radio and movies that are now under subversive control.
