friends of The Impersonal Life, believing that their ideals were similar and that the Aquarian Foundation as then being planned would give American students an opportunity of serving in the period of chaos (through which the world is now passing) that the Brother XII at that early date quite clearly foresaw, as is evidenced in the remarkable articles, The Shadow and The Tocsin, both of which will be published in later issues of THE INNER LIFE.

Gradually the Aquarian Foundation took form and a magazine, The Chalice, was published, which helped to gain members; but it was The Message principally that attracted many earnest followers eager to find an impersonal avenue of service, as was seemingly therein afforded. We are including in this issue a reprint of The Message, in order that our readers may understand more clearly the purpose of this editorial.

In the course of a few months the present publisher began to notice certain subtle signs of a vast egotism, through hints from Brother XII that in his Real Self he was the reincarnation of the Master who wrote Light on the Path, even as he wrote The Three Truths, but that his human personality was the “chela;” when always before he had humbly claimed he was but the “chela” through whom the Master had written The Message and the booklet and was directing the Aquarian movement. He had even told the publisher that the Master had visited him “in person” in Europe, outlining to him the plan which he was to follow. So when this claim was voiced, and then later ones that he was actually the “Manu” of the Race and was responsible for humanity for thousands of years to come, and was likewise Osiris reincarnated,
