====== The Inner Life ====== == THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MAY 1936 == ---- as the mind continues its existence even when the body consciousness sleeps at night. At night the mind’s consciousness retires into an inner state of existence and comes back into the brain in the morning; but at death the mind’s consciousness retires and stays in that inner state of being, coming back no more into that same brain, but in time building for itself a new body and a new brain into which it returns as a babe, awakening into a new day of the soul’s life. ————o———— ==== FOOLISH WAR ==== FOUR hundred billion dollars is too huge a sum to register properly in most of our minds, but when the figures are marshalled together in terms of everyday living as was done by Nicholas Murray Butler in a recent issue of Collier’s they strike home. Says Dr. Butler. “The World War, all told, cost, aside from thirty million lives, four hundred billion dollars. “With that money we could build a $250,000 house on five acres of land worth $100.00 an acre, furnish it with $1,000.00 worth of furniture, and give that home to each and every family in the United States, Canada, Australia, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, France, Belgium, Germany and Russia. “After all this there would be enough money left to give every city of 20,000 inhabitants or over, in all the countries named above, a five million dollar library and a ten million dollar university. “And then out of what was left, we would still have sufficient money that, set aside at five per cent, would provide a $1,000.00 yearly salary for an army of 125,000 teachers and a like salary for 125,000 nurses.” Let that sink in. Think what it would mean if every family in your trading area had $1,000.00 to spend for furniture, and house furnishings and maybe a few clothes and accessories thrown in. Think what it would mean in terms of paper sales. Instead we are paying for the war—and it was all a useless, criminal waste. {{ :36-226.jpg |}} ---- //⥳ [[definition_of_terms_may36_5|previous page]] // | // [[group_study|next page]] ⥴ //
