====== The Inner Life ====== == THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | DECEMBER 1936 == ---- === HUSBANDS === WHEN I first read the chapter on “Soul Mates” in The Impersonal Life, I had my third husband. And what a time I was having with him! If hell was ever on earth, my home was one. And if a personal devil existed, I was one. And I am not elaborating it any. I hated everyone. I beat my children. I would not allow the word God, or Jesus, to be spoken in my presence. At that time I knew nothing of Truth. It was then that The Impersonal Life was loaned to me by a friend. The first time I read it, I said, “What right has any author to say he is God? And to speak all those things as if he was God Almighty? etc.” I got as far as “Soul Mates” in it, but had to return the book before I could finish it. So I sent to The Sun Center for a copy, and with it received the first Paper, “Seek ye first the Kingdom.” I took them both down to the ocean beach, in order to be alone, and devoured every word—I mean of the Paper. Then I turned to the Introduction of the book, which I had skipped before. Well, real study then began. When I reached Page 42, paragraphs 3, 4 and 5, I determined I would stop all my wrong thinking. Do you believe it was easy? I tell you truly that I actually sweated in spirit, whipping my mind to get it to stop saying such things as, “You know he is drinking again—you know he is. And when he is drinking, he will not leave that woman alone, etc., etc.” Oh, how I fought those thoughts—even sometimes I would say, “I know he is, but I just will not think that way any more.” And hour after hour at night, when he would not return, I would sit in bed and fight the thoughts. Then when he came home I would fight him (I wonder now that he ever came home). Well, home was like that. The facts were, he was drinking and spending nights with other women. But through my studies I learned why. Because I accused him of it. I traced back all my actions and words, until I saw that in the beginning it was {{ :36-561.jpg |}} ---- //⥳ [[meat_eating_4|previous page]] // | // [[husbands_2|next page]] ⥴ //
