====== The Inner Life ====== == THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | AUGUST 1934 == ---- feeling passing between them, is thus constantly confronted and influenced by that picture. Such a situation is bad enough as viewed by the ordinary mind; but if we should say that the real situation when viewed by one able to see beyond what appears is far worse, you will understand the importance of what we will now try to show. For what has actually happened is that by the mother’s building that thought picture in consciousness and so vitalizing it with the fears and worries with which she constantly feeds it, she created a thought elemental that fastened upon her son with such power that he unconsciously was forced to drink as he did, often against his desire and will. The mother, with her mind ever turned to him and thus directing upon him this powerful elemental force, truly influenced—yes—compelled him to do and be the very thing she had feared and thus had pictured! Just remember the Law, as stated in THE WAY OUT: “Whatever you think and hold in consciousness as being so—or whatever you see and believe is so outmanifests itself in your life and affairs.” Can you not see how this must be so in this and like instances? Now take anyone who in a similar way judges or condemns another close to him; the same thing—if the picture is once formed and fed by fears, dislike, hatred, doubt, worry, or strong feeling of a negative kind—inevitably results. The one judged and condemned is actually caused and influenced into doing and being what he is thus pictured in mind. And the proof of it is—when that condemnatory influence is removed, and instead the opposite kind of influence, is directed toward him, such as unselfish love, faith and trust in him, nine times out of ten that one will be glad of the release and will quickly free himself of the environments and people to whom he went to get away from the influence of the one sending him such condemnatory thoughts.
