====== The Inner Life ====== == THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | NOVEMBER 1934 == ---- remedies that are offered as panaceas, but on these panaceas no critics are in agreement. I am not afraid to assert that the rapidity of circulation of money is in direct ratio to the rapidity of its own vibration. A money adapted to the more rapid vibrations of a higher plane is capable of circulating just as much faster as the increased rate of vibration is faster than its former rate. The higher the rate of vibration, the freer and more rapid its circulation. To understand this clearly requires experience or experimentation. In a small American city dwelt a lovely family, consisting of father, mother, and three children. They were all suffering from the so-called depression, and faced Christmas Eve without any visible money to use in buying gifts for one another. Out of the gloom silence which had fallen on them, the oldest daughter spoke, “It is not the material gifts which we crave, but to us Christmas typifies the spirit of giving, and when none of us have even the smallest coin to sacrifice in making a gift to another, how can we manifest that exchange of Christmas generosity?” Then the father spoke. He was a gentle, kindly soul, and his words came out of the experience gained from many depressions. “Daughter,” said he, “you have said that it is not the material gifts we crave, but only the expression of giving. Would you like to enjoy both and in a larger measure than we have ever dared enjoy them before on Christmas? I propose that this Christmas we give more in money value than we have dreamed of doing in the past.” The children’s eyes shone for a moment. Then they asked, “But, father, how is it possible when the only money in the house is the twenty dollars tax money which you must keep available?” The father spoke, opened a drawer and took from it a new twenty dollar bill. “To express the spirit of Christmas and in the holy service of giving, this bill will increase itself five fold, and fulfill its original task notwithstanding. Observe, I have been saving this for taxes, but now on Christmas Eve I will make a gift of it to mother to use in any way that will give her the greatest happiness.” And he kissed his wife and pressed the bill into her hand.
