====== The Inner Life ====== == THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | APRIL 1935 == ---- abiding in the Christ within itself; while a Master Mind has found the Master within itself. This then resolves itself into the difference between a Christ and a Master. In the articles on the Mind we have been to much pains to explain how to become master of one’s self, of all one’s powers—physical, emotional and mental; showing that it can be accomplished only by first mastering the forces of the mind, and then, with the assistance of the mind, by gaining control of the forces of the lower nature. What part of you is it that thus teaches your mind all these things, and then aids it to control the forces of the lower nature? We have called that the real you, the inner self—the soul. The soul is then the inner teacher and the master of the outer mind. But all souls are not illuminated souls, or even awakened souls. In fact, the great majority are still asleep, and know nothing regarding their divine nature, thinking they are of the earth and the earth only. Many of such attain great mental powers in such belief, through devoting their powers solely to material ends. Such who are wholly selfish usually develop into what are known as “black magicians.” But such magicians are Master Minds. Likewise there are souls who develop along intellectual lines only, learning everything there is to know about the laws of minds, the control of the invisible forces of both their own natures and of the cosmos, even about the power of Love and its part in the foldment and outmanifestation of God’s perfect Plan for humanity and the world. Such are admittedly Master Minds, and can be called illuminated minds; and if the personality has been completely mastered, are known as “white magicians,” in contradistinction to the selfish Master Minds above described. But neither these white nor black magicians have attained true Illumination, because they have not yet been Christed by the descent of the Holy Spirit into their souls. Which means that Divine Love, such as Jesus radiated and expressed in all His thoughts, words and acts, has not yet been born in their hearts, and does not there rule and direct all that they do.
