====== The Inner Life ====== == THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | FEBRUARY 1933 == ---- support and free the world and prove sufficient to withstand all the assaults and efforts of the enemy to keep humanity in subjection and slavery, whether it be physical, mental or spiritual, which has been the concerted purpose of the forces of darkness from the beginning of time. These enemies deem men as but chattels to be used and exploited to further their own selfish and evil ends. In early times they drove and held men in slavery by the use of the whip. Today they do the same, but instead of a material whip, they use the whip of money. Having obtained possession of all the money of the world, they now withhold money except from those who do their bidding. And men the world over have ever been deceived into believing that without money they cannot eat or live, cannot have any of the good things of life, and cannot be counted as worthy or successful in the eyes of their fellows. This man did not teach that. When he sent forth his disciples, he told them to go and preach that the Kingdom of Heaven is near at hand; to take no money in their purses and no extra coat or shoes, for the laborer in God’s service is worthy of his keep. Likewise he said to all faithful followers to be not concerned about food or clothes, for their Heavenly Father knows their need and will take every care of them; if they but trust Him and make the finding of His Kingdom and living as He would have them live FIRST in their hearts. Nineteen hundred years have passed since he gave forth his teachings and laid down the precepts and laws for those who sought to follow him.
