He would not bring the book back until his own copy had arrived; then he returned it and I never saw a more radiant face than his as he said, “I would not take a thousand dollars for this little book, if I knew not where to get another.” He said his inharmonies had all faded out of his life and he was no longer troubled.

Another man—a hard-headed business man—also shyly asked me to allow him to read the book, after I had told him about it. I was reading it again during the daytime and letting him have it in the evenings, when a woman in great distress came to me. Domestic trouble was breaking her heart. We had always been only business friends. She was “horrified” after she had “imposed her troubles” on me. I told her to come home with me—I wanted to read her something. I read and talked a little of what it says in the chapter on “Soul Mates.” She begged for the book to take home. I let her have it—lending a borrowed book, something I had never done before this one came to me. But the owner, when I told her, said she was glad I did. The woman brought it back yesterday and said she wanted one to send to her husband. She had become like a different person—so much more poised and sure of herself.

The last-named man was so terribly disappointed that I had loaned the book to the woman that he sent for one immediately.

Last Wednesday a dear friend came to me. She was very much frightened. She had been to a physician, and he had told her she had a very serious heart ailment. She was taking digitalis that he had prescribed for her. She was terribly upset. I made her a cup of tea and said,
