====== The Inner Life ====== == THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | NOVEMBER 1936 == ---- should He create a soul out of such substance—why not out of pure spiritual substance? It must be because He is responsible for that substance—it must be a phase of His own consciousness still unredeemed, and the soul was created out of that substance to serve as a medium in and through which that substance could be purified and brought back into the One Consciousness of God. This has been fully explained in the Soul articles running through the 1933 issues of this Magazine. The soul of itself is pure, because Divinely created, but being created out of earth substance, and being given a body of flesh like the animals, it was influenced by and became involved in its animal nature, and through vast experience in countless bodies of such nature, in all kinds of conditions both of evil, in its search for release, in time it learns how—always inspired and empowered by its Divine Self—to work its way out of that nature and its resulting consciousness, which can be done only by purifying and transmuting the animal forces therein that would hold it down to earth. Thus certain souls have unfolded in consciousness to the stage where they are ready for release from earth conditions, and at this special foreordained time, at the close of a cosmic cycle, all souls are brought into the King’s Chamber before the Great Judge, Jesus Christ, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, and judged as to their spiritual status—whether they have grown in understanding to where selfless Love rules their consciousness, or if self still controls. For such Love, and that alone, entitles them to complete release from a body of flesh. If Love is strongly in evidence, they are first released in the King’s Chamber from the restraint of the Cosmic Law, allowing their souls to express themselves fully, according to their understanding and to what is now the supreme desire of their hearts. If it is proved that Love now predominates, it will soon bring about a complete surrender of the outer mind of self, so that the Holy Spirit will “descend” and fully rule.
