FOR LONG years a pilgrim had traveled over many roads, through smiling, open country, over dangerous mountain paths into verdant, contented valleys, through bleak and cheerless desert lands; and always he had been seeking, seeking—he knew not what. Sometimes he seemed to have found what he sought in a life of pleasure, or in a beloved companionship, or in an inspiring personality who pointed him to new countries; only to be cast again with discouragement, disillusionment, unhappiness.

Now, travel-stained, weary in mind and body, discouraged by all the years of seemingly fruitless searching, he had ascended a high hill, hoping that he might from its summit see that which he sought. But all that met his hopeless gaze were clouds of grey mist.

In anguished tones he cried aloud, “Oh, thou great Creator, reveal Thyself to me; reveal to me Why this fruitless journey throughout the years; show me now a new path that I may find my heart’s desire!”

As he waited there, humbled and receptive, he heard a voice and looking up beheld a glorious and shining Presence. “Oh soul, who journeys on, behold, I AM the Christ!” were His words.

“You speak of Jesus of Nazareth, He who ascended into the Heavens?” he hesitatingly but eagerly questioned.

“Nay, I speak of the Christ of whom Jesus spoke, when He said, ‘I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I AM the Christ in thee—thy Higher Self, thy Life, the Light which lighteth thee. Acknowledge Me in all thy ways and I will reveal to thee the Kingdom for which thou seekest. Behold!”

He pointed to a bank of white clouds which as He spoke lifted, and there the pilgrim beheld a land of mystical beauty, great vistas of green covered hills, bedecked with gorgeous flowers, splendid palaces, pilgrims robed in spotless white, singing anthems of praise and thanksgiving.
