MOTHER-IN-LAWS

THERE is no doubt but what you were brought to your mother-in-law’s home for the soul qualities you needed to develop and for the opportunity it gave you for attaining the understanding and the love you needed to express. That was a wonderful truth taught you when it was shown that your mother-in-law symbolizes your lower self. In other words you were shown clearly the qualities in yourself that still remain. How can that be? What you saw in her was what your mind pictured as being so. What is your mind? But the sum total of what you believe or have thought and built into your consciousness and hold there as so—whether it is true or untrue.

The Impersonal Lessons are for the sole purpose of teaching your mind the truth and cleansing it from all error. The chief truth is impressing upon you is that God is All in all, and that God is in your mother-in-law as much as He is in you, that you are both formed in the image and likeness of God so that He can express His perfection through you. But through wrong teachings and beliefs acquired back through the ages your soul has built up an imperfect body in its consciousness and likewise wrong beliefs about all other people. Yet in their reality these people are all in the image and likeness of God.

When you failed, because of these wrong ideas and because you were not putting into practice the truths in the Impersonal Lessons, this experience was given you in order that these wrong ideas and mind pictures be shown you. This was accomplished through your mother-in-law filling all those qualities of hers before you. Were they not in you you would not have seen them; that is, if they were not in your mind as wrong beliefs you would not have seen them. In other words, the conditions in the home are only what you think they are—that what you see them to be in your mind. But they are not so in reality, or in God’s mind, or in the consciousness of your real self—that image and likeness self of the Christ You. Can you see that?

Then what is your job? You must change that picture of your mother-in-law you are carrying around in your mind, by determinedly seeing the Christ Self of her. How can you do this? Whenever the old feeling
