The Inner Life 1933

The fallen man has not only to be redeemed by the Spirit of Christ within his soul, but he has to be actually translated out of the darkness of the outer mind and its selfish desires into the Kingdom of God’s Son; and every department of his being, be- ginning with his spirit, must actually be RE-CREATED stage by stage by deliverance from the power of sin and death, the selfish affections, is governed by the life of the first Adam, which is fallen and corrupt; and © the mind and body are therefore open in every department to the power of the Poisoner. Consequently the Apostle John declares with blunt language that the “whole world lieth in the evil one.” (I John 5:19).

If the first creation was “fearfully and wonderfully made,” then in truth the “re-creation” of the creature utterly sunk into the animal-soul and the animal-flesh, and lifted again into the realm of spirit to have spirit dominion over soul and body, is a wondrous work, which only the Triune God could accomplish; the Father giving to the Son in the soul, the Son giving His life and con- sciousness to the mind; and all three then living as One in the outer man, doing the Father’s work on earth even as in Heaven.

That the Prince of Darkness resists every step of man’s de- liverance from his thraldom is easy to understand, and it is neces- sary that every follower of Christ should know clearly all the ele- ments in the fallen creation which are open to his power.

If this Prince of Hell fully controls the unregenerate man as shown in the second chapter of Ephesians, there is also shown that Christ Jesus makes alive those “who were dead” and raises them up with Him to sit with Him in heavenly places.

Then it is of vital importance that all turn to Christ in their souls, and to Him alone, beseeching Him to quicken them with His Spirit, that they may be lifted up and be with Him ever after- ward, following only where He leads.

These are high truths, and are principally for those whose soul faculties have been quickened so that they are able to see, hear and feel in the inner world of spirit. Such as shown above to be doubly on the alert because, open to the illusions of the psychic realm where dwell the spirits ruled by the Prince of Darkness, they are easily caught in the snares laid for them, unless quickened by the Lord
