The Inner Life

TITHING is a good practice for several reasons.

First, we voluntarily decide to set aside a tenth of our income for a definite purpose—the upbuilding of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. There is no better way of seeking the Kingdom than by helping to establish it, which we are admonished to do.

Second, by thus giving freely, we create a vacuum which by the inevitable law of action and reaction must be filled again to overflowing.

Third, in tithing we substitute faith in God’s power to supply our needs, for the old fear that we must hold tight to every penny, or we shall come to want.

Fourth, in loosening our purse strings, we often loosen many other things which have been binding us, and we find that we are freer in mind, soul and body, more joyous, and more abounding in health and all that makes life worth while. There is nothing like the spirit of giving to awaken a soul to the full knowledge that he is a child of God, “a son of the King,” and heir to every good thing in the kingdom. —The Aquarian Age.
