In our lessons we state that one must first start to do something, when the power flows to us enabling us to do it. Think this over carefully and in your noonday silences try to realize that when you open yourself wide to the Light and Power of Divine Love, you are connecting yourself with that Power, getting acquainted with It, and placing yourself in Its service, so that whenever It tells you to do anything, you will fearlessly and confidently go ahead, knowing that the Power will do it through you. This is a wonderful truth, dear friend, and we are sure, if you earnestly try to prove it, you will be overjoyed to see how it works.
No, after we have had all these outer pleasures and have thus allowed ourselves to descend for awhile into the world of the senses, something in us rebels and compels us to return to the heights, in order that our souls may be refreshed and cleansed of the taint of self caused by our satisfying the lower desires.
We are glad that you had this experience, in order that you could be shown how futile are such things—how they never really satisfy, and to make you more acquainted with the soul hunger you are now feeling, so that you will not deny it any longer. The time will come when none of those other things will attract or hold you, but you will really then make the finding of the Kingdom FIRST. It must come sooner or later. When the human personality has had its fling and life is seen in all its sordid tints, then the soul will have its chance.
We are very happy that Ann is coming along so nicely and that you were able to do all that you did for her. It looks very much as if she caught the peculiar “flu” that has been traveling around this Fall. No one knows what causes these different phases of influenza or colds, and while there may be some occult forces back of them, utilizing this opportunity to get into the consciousness that the weakened state of the patient permits, yet it is not wise to look to or attribute sickness to such cause. Instead we should know the Truth as you did, keeping our minds wholly fixed upon the One Loving, Perfect Life of God that is in the patient and which, as surely as we see It there and nothing else, will heal and make perfect again the body and mind affected.
