anything alone, but will wait upon Me in perfect surrender and become to Me as the hand is to the human mind—a selfless, perfect instrument that automatically flies to do My bidding the moment the need manifests.

Real Love it not of the flesh, but of the Spirit. The love of a mother for a daughter, or of sister for brother, or even of wife for husband, or lover for sweetheart, is but human love, and is more or less selfish. It cannot help but be that, because it is of the self. But still it is the outer expression of the Great Love, which is God, and which must express as it does in such forms because it is the only way it can express in human nature.

But when the human nature is superseded by the Christ Nature, then God’s Love comes forth from the heart in all its Purity, sees all men and all children as Itself, and is ever seeking to come forth into their human minds to make them aware of Its Living Presence. But the Light shineth in the darkness, and most often the darkness of self in its human mind cannot comprehend It’s wondrous meaning and purpose.

From your twice stating in your letters that you seemed to be fully master of yourself, and that you felt that nothing could worry you henceforth, and then going right out and failing utterly, it was plainly to show you just what was your next job—if you wished to free yourself from these weaknesses.

First, we must tell you that you are not different from any other soul earnestly striving to obtain mastery over the lower self. Everyone of us has to meet again and again similar phases of failure. The only reason why you were permitted the feeling of mastery, was to show you what can be—if you but will and determine that it shall be. Failure and mistakes are only permitted by our Higher Selves to encourage and stimulate us to greater efforts to overcome our weaknesses and to build up the strength which must be part of the equipment He is preparing for His use. Remember, of yourself you do nothing and can have nothing. All the power you have comes only from Him—your Higher Self—God in you. But it comes into expression only when you call upon it—by knowing it is there and that it waits and wants to be used. He does not give of His power without thus being called upon.
