THE PYRAMID

Strong vital beings they appeared to be, filled with life and power and similar in every way to other men, and yet—what wealth of wisdom and love streamed from their eyes, and what a sublime tenderness played round their firm, unsmiling lips. A movement of their bodies and the flesh itself seemed full of light. Yet men they must have been, for this is how they spoke regarding the affairs of earth. One, a little taller than the rest, spoke first:

“We have now in our mind consideration and concern for others who will sometime wish to travel the road over which we have come. Therefore, our thought today is how to aid, guide and encourage them—save them, if we may, from certain errors through which we have painfully passed. How then shall we leave for them in fitting and protected form these Truths we have learned and proved; how preserve for them this knowledge and experience which those who strive to reach the heights must know? Let us take counsel now and give our various views.”

“The Golden Key?” a clear voiced lover and expounder of the stars called out, and waited eagerly for reply; for thus he designated the ancient art of Stellar Craft, known as “The Written Law,” in its ancient name.

“‘Tis not enough,” the tall speaker sadly answered him. “Although that wondrous language of the fiery orbs endures beyond all time and space and should be familiar to the dwellers of Earth, yet only the few will think of turning to the stars when overwhelmed with grief. You know how constantly we hear these younger brothers say, ‘How glorious the stars, but how cold and far away!’—That is the sum-total of their knowledge of the Universe above.
