a higher form. It hardly need be stated that murder or the wilful destruction of animal life for sport is wholly impossible among these people.

Their entire world is governed by their concept of Life, and by what they conceive to be the objective of Life. They spell Life with a capital L, and they recognize and respect Life in any and all forms. In other words all forms are alive to them. They believe firmly that Life intends that what is expressing in every form shall attain maturity, unless evolution demands that it be transmuted or absorbed into a higher form.

For instance, if man, by selecting and weeding, can so improve the form of a plant that it will enable the Life in it to express in a higher way, they would consider legitimate the destruction of the old form, for it would seem to them only a hastening of the process of evolution, which nature would bring about in her more deliberate fashion.

Also if a form were sacrificed to feed a higher form, they would call this transmutation of Life from a lower to a higher form, and the sacrifice involved in such absorption would be regarded as right and necessary. They would consider it serving Life, and that, in their minds, is the whole duty of forms. Forms are subsidiary to Life and are useful only in its evolving expression. Both the preservation and destruction of forms are deemed actually necessary to the serving of Life’s fuller expression, the lower forms always being intended to serve Life in the higher forms.

Through their rigid adherence to this idea of Life, they avoid all destruction that does not serve Life and its evolution, and wilful waste is unknown to them.
