the near future. But it may be that what we have witnessed the past few weeks is the beginning of the change; that the forces of Righteousness have started through our President to plant the seeds of the New Order in the minds of our people, as an evidence to the rest of the world of what must be before what they are seeking can come to pass.
For think not that the eyes of the world are not upon what is taking place in these United States, or that many nations are not looking to us to lead them out of the terrible darkness they are now in. As we are going to press the editorials of most of our newspapers read much as follows—
“London, March 13.—With Europe close to the brink for disaster and the word ‘war’ being used openly today in chancellories and diplomatic circles as well as in newspapers, governments and religious leaders are moving to prevent the general European conflagration which is threatened since the change in government in Germany a month ago.”
While it is possible that the American people have been brought to the point where they are willing to be shown their error, it does not seem as if Europe and Asia are ready as yet to refuse to be led into war by their selfishly controlled governments. They need further to be devastated and to go through much severer suffering and misery before their release can come.
Let us hope, however, that our example and that the policy we pursue from now on, in dealing with the governments of the old world, who have been looking to us to finance their wars and for our political aid, and which we have always given; will teach them their lessons and that if they wish further to deplete and finally to bankrupt all their resources for such selfish and senseless ends, they will have to do so without our assistance.
