that you wash your robes (consciousness) and make them white (selfless) in the blood of the Lamb (life of Christ).
It is they who will be “watchful and ready,” for their only thought will be of Him, ever waiting upon Him; and they may know that they are accepted by Him by their being kept busy serving others that they will have no time to think of self.
And mind you, the material side of life does not matter with such, for they are not at all interested in it. But never doubt that they will be taken care of, for they are doing the Father’s Will, and therefore the Law will always provide every thing needed by them, and will place them just where they can most effectively serve—in conditions of affluence, or where they can best help the poor and down-trodden. Such will surely be with the Lord when he comes.
FOR THE second part of our theme, we quote from an article by Rev. Charles L. Thornton, in the Defender Magazine of April, 1934, which very clearly expresses our ideas about the other phase of the Lord’s coming we wish to discuss:
The first great act of the second coming of Christ will be the formation of the parousia in the air. The word parousia is a Greek word that is used throughout the New Testament and means a stationary presence. In the Revised Version this fact is always indicated in the margin. “What shall be the sign of thy parousia (presence)?” asked the four disciples as they sat with the Lord on the Mount of Olives. —Matthew 24:3.
The transfiguration of Jesus was a “stationary presence.” And so far as I know every place in the New Testament where the word parousia is used, it refers to the presence of Christ in the immediate neighborhood of the earth. “Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming (parousia) of the Lord.”—James 5:7. When our dear Lord comes in the air, He will set up His judgment throne. “Behold the judge standeth before the door.”
This will be the first act of His second coming. And praise God when His downward motion stops, the upward motion of the Saints will begin. “We which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds,
