The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | SEPTEMBER 1934
stand as yet upon no sure ground. Because of this we have our present state of world upheaval, of license and disruption.
Hence the problem of this transition period, and hence the need to give out a teaching which will guide the enquirer to find the truth for himself. Hence the need for the laws of the soul and for the truth as to individual unfoldment to be clearly enunciated.
“With the growth of that knowledge will come the steady growth of the group of world knowers, for when a man has found the centre of knowledge within himself, when he has discovered his soul, he passes automatically into a consciousness of the subjective life, and begins to work with causes. He is no longer lost in the outer world of effects. Then he finds himself standing shoulder to shoulder with the mystics and knowers of the ages.
“Another point needs strong emphasis. If it is true that there is being gathered together in the background of our present world state, a group of mystics who are distinguished by knowledge, vision and the power to work on mental levels, it should also be noted that this band is not confined to the strictly religious types. Men and women in every branch of human thought are found in this group, including scientists, philosophers and business men.
“Science in its many branches, the varying schools of philosophy and the achievements of man in the many departments of living are intrinsically as truly spiritual as that phase of thought which we call religious. They too are in process of transformation and this scientist, for instance, is recognizing. His investigations are entering into a new field, and in it the older techniques and mechanical methods will gradually be discarded and a different concept as to the nature of matter will mark the new age.”
MOULDERS OF THOUGHT
“DURING the past centuries, group after group has appeared and played its part” in influencing the minds of men and pointing them to ever higher ideals and achievement.
