The only difference between the two, however, is that the first is really living that experience and thinks it real at the time; while the second knows he is only thinking it. This is caused by their different types of mind and nature. They both might be going through an identical mental experience, but their different mental reactions would be as described.

The purpose of this explanation is to show that “leaving the body” is not an accomplishment to be sought; for as a general rule, those who have such experiences cannot control them, and they find themselves “going out” without their volition and sometimes against their desire and will. On the other hand, if it comes one naturally, it should be devoted solely to the service of Christ—to the helping and blessing of others; when one will be wisely and lovingly guided in its use, while the power lasts. For in time one may find he may be called higher method of service.

One should always strive to be master of one’s mind, so as to be able to go in consciousness where one wills. That mastery can be gained by studying and faithfully following the suggestions in the Mind articles in this Magazine. It is far better to be in absolute control of the mind, for it is the thoughts and feelings that are allowed to come into the mind that affect and disturb the so-called different inner bodies of man—the mental, emotional (astral), and vital (etheric double) bodies—and that cause all the inharmonious conditions that manifest in the physical body and life.

When one is perfect master of one’s mind, he can require and compel the mind to think only the truth—the good and perfect thoughts that emanate from the One Consciousness—God, which will enable him to enter and work on any and all planes of being as his Jesus Christ Self, with all of His Christ powers and wisdom
