The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | JANUARY 1936

Can we not then expect the unfolding months, the twelve new chapters in our life, to bring even greater joys to gladden our hearts, blessings for which to give thanks? Will not each day give us another chance to do better, to put into practice the lessons we have learned from the mysterious teachings of the Christ which life never fails to bring to us? We live only one day at a time, and if we accept ourself these teachings, and desire more than anything else to let God rule and direct our every thought, word and act, we shall find all uncertainty changed into positive action, and that anything and everything is possible.

For God is within all—waiting, and gives each one of us Greeting at the New Year Season, as well as an invitation to spend the unfoldment of the twelve chapters of it with Him in The Kingdom.

Yes, He gives invitation to all; for did He not send His Son Jesus Christ, to lead us and to show us every step of the way?

FAILURE?

OH LONG and dark the stairs I trod
With stumbling feet to find my God.
Gaining a foothold bit by bit,
Then slipping back and losing it.
Never progressing, striving still,
With weakening grasp and fainting will.
Bleeding to climb to God, while He
Serenely smiled, unnoting me.
Then came a certain time when I
Loosened my hold and fell thereby;
Down to the lowest step my fall,
As if I had not climbed at all.
And while I lay despairing there,
I heard a footfall on the stair.
In the same path where I, dismayed,
Faltered and fell and lay afraid,
And lo! when hope had ceased to be,
My God came down the stairs to me.
