The Inner Life

Hundreds of Groups are already in existence, making such a department necessary, so that these groups can have wise and loving guidance and one to whom leaders and members can come for counsel regarding any personal problems they cannot solve themselves.

It also makes possible the forming of many more Groups—in thousands of communities where The Way Out and the Impersonal truths can bring the Light and help that almost everyone needs.

Let all try to realize that these Lessons are not merely to aid students to free themselves from existing conditions of lack, limitation, and inharmony no matter how pressing such are at present, but to teach them the law of right-thinking and to build into their minds a true understanding of the meaning and purpose of life that will enable them to rise above the concerns and needs of self to where their chief concern will be the helping of others.

We know that may seem a far step for some at present, but all who are led to this Work are those who have in them the possibility of attaining it, and the faithful and persistent ones in the Work are those who will become a part of the New Order.

It means, however, that the truths in The Way Out once learned are but the necessary foundation which everyone requires for an active Spiritual life, especially a life of service. The succeeding Lessons must be equally studied and proved before being fully equipped for a life of effective service, not to speak of entering the Kingdom.

But let this not concern you now. Rather determine first to learn and apply the Truths in The Way Out, and the inspiration to continue will surely follow.

THE GREAT value of Groups as compared to individual study is in the hearing of the answers of others, in the new ideas inspired, and in the discussions that ensue making it possible for much more of the true meaning of the text and of the questions to be brought out than when studying alone. But more than all else does it enable one to get away from self in the meeting and coping with other personalities.

Yes, we know that many dislike contacting strong positive personalities, remembering past unpleasant experiences; but there is no better way of mastering one’s own personality than in refusing
