The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | NOVEMBER 1933

Going to my room I threw myself down on the bed with perfect abandon from all care, and soon felt as if I was floating through space.

This floating sensation was such a pleasant experience that I was thoroughly enjoying it because of the rest and peace it brought.

After a period of such enjoyment, it occurred to me to open my eyes, for I could not feel my body or the bed. To my amazement I saw I was floating in the air above the bed. I looked down and there I saw the bed and—what! yes, there was my body just as I had lain down in it some time ago! I had to look again to make myself believe that it was my body, for was I not in my body? I certainly was in a body for I could see my hands folded on my chest. But I was soon convinced that I must have two bodies, the one I was now in, and the one I had used all day and that was lying on the bed.

Soon my friend, who had promised to awaken me in time for dinner, appeared. She stepped to the side of the bed and placed her hand on my body. Not seeing it awaken, she spoke, calling me to dinner. Then as I did not wake up, she listened to my breathing and becoming frightened she ran from the room to bring help. She soon returned with the family doctor, my husband and little girl. They began to work over me trying to restore me to consciousness, while I was frantically telling them not to bother with that body, that I was all right.

In my endeavor to make them understand, I wrang my hands, constantly repeating:

“Don’t bother with that body, I am all right.” I seemed not to be able to make them hear, when suddenly the thought came to me that they could not hear me until
