The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MAY 1933

After the parade we were walking back down Pennsylvania Avenue, jostled on all sides—when again that same Man walked past us. Tall, majestic, full grown beard, and a staff that was either a cane or made to resemble one; walking along deep in thought, yet apparently seeing all that passed; but otherwise unknown and unobserved. Then came the impression, “If it is He, what are His thoughts of the multitude and of the events of the day?” And the answer, “I am well pleased to find ye are beginning to manifest My Spirit. ’Tis well; it will be but a little while longer.”

Those two experiences answered my question as to why, only two days before, I so suddenly made up my mind to attend the Inauguration. I drove to Washington the day before, and started back the same night after it was over.

God’s Spirit was manifest to me that day in everything; it was manifest in the throng that attended; it was manifest in the ceremonies; it was manifest “in the air,” felt, I am sure, by almost everyone there; and in my opinion it will manifest thunderously down the days to come.
