me their father was a gardener and he loved the flowers, and he was so glad his children were all girls because if he had a boy, he could not give him a flower’s name.
Then I thought how strange it was that the boys were not called after flowers, and wondered why. Was it because the boys must represent strength of the protecting trees, strong Oaks and Ashes, hardy enduring Pines and Larches.

I remember the day we left the Country and returned to town. It was then I found my Inner World. Then I discovered that we can leave nothing behind us, because our little Inner World holds all that we want to keep.
Jesus called this Inner World the Kingdom of Heaven. When He wanted to get away for a while from the noise of a criticizing crowd, He would go within and talk with His Father. He had filled His Inner World with such beautiful things, that the light from that world shone all around Him, and went out in rays of peace and healing.
I resolved to fill my Inner World with flowers I could no longer see with the outer eyes, so I planted a beautiful little garden within—just such a garden as I had left behind, when we came away from the country. I used to visualize this garden when I went to bed at night, and I let each flower tell its story to me in the darkness.
Many times when things went wrong around me, and I felt lonely and unhappy, I would sit very still and go into my little Inner Garden and get a great peace from the flowers. Though I did not know it, this was my first experience of the Silence.
All these beautiful things I could not tell to those around me, because they did not understand my little Inner World. As I was always a delicate child, they thought it was a fanciful imagination, and wanted to uproot my lovely flowers. No one understood until one beautiful day when I was older, God sent to our town a wonderful woman, who believed in and understood all the things that I had always believed. It was the happiest day of my life when I first heard Alice Thorpe Horne stand up and give forth the beliefs I had always held. My heart beat so
