wondered why people would not walk on this path that I was on, for it was smooth, level and straight, with no rocks to crawl over. I seemed to be the only one walking on it.

“I immediately felt this had some connection with what I was planning to do, and I seemed to know that these people I wanted to go with were the ones who were so foolishly climbing those rocks, only to slip down off them once they gained the top, and that they never got anywhere. I then knew how much better off I was on that straight and narrow path.”

“I HAD been greatly worried about my future, because I couldn’t see anything ahead worth living for.

“In a dream someone reminded me of a Professor who was very learned and could answer any question regarding one’s life, so I decided I would see him. I went to his office and asked him if he could tell me about my life and my future. He walked to a large bookcase and took out of it a large book and laid it on the table. He turned over the pages until he came to the page concerning me. He asked me to look on this page, which I did, and I saw thereon two black lines, partly blurred. Then he said those two lines are sins which you have committed which you must clear off this book before your life will change; for this is the Book of Life and all good and bad deeds are written therein. You must go through hardships, strife, and repentance before it can be erased from the book.

“Then he took me to a large French window and opening the window wide, he said: ‘Now look in the distance and tell me what you see.’ I saw a shining star on the ground, at the foot of a big hill far away. It rose slowly from the ground until it finally settled in the sky. The Professor said, pointing to the star: ‘That rising star symbolizes your future life. But you notice that it is not near, but at a distance across a wide valley covered with many rough places and a dense forest, which means that there is a long hard road from here to there and which is the only way to reach it. When you get there your life will change and your star will rise as you have seen.”
