The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MAY 1934

Christ the man, but He who is the Only Begotten Son of God, “the Light which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”

Until seekers of truth have found Him, and are lovingly and trustingly following Him, they are but wandering in the darkness of sin and error, and will never know Peace or Freedom from lack, limitation, inharmony and unhappiness.

SOUL PROBLEMS

ALL ATTEMPT to deal with the facts and problems of the Soul by means of the concepts and processes of the brain, is as useless as it is foolish. It is not the providence of the brain to ascertain facts, but to classify, to arrange and to correlate them. In the physical world facts must be ascertained by means of the physical senses, and it naturally follows that facts of the super-physical worlds must be apprehended by means of super-physical senses.

The man who attempts to prove to the persistence of a spiritual world or being, by the method of sequential argument, is no whit less foolish than he who tries to disprove the same case by the same method. The most that either may do is to establish his contention as a logical hypothesis. But that is not proof. Proof comes only by individual experience of the reaction of the senses to the plane, or state of consciousness, involved.

The indissoluble unity of all life and consciousness is a supersensible and four-dimensional fact, which the Soul knows as an aspect of its own being. The “Spirit which quickeneth” strives ceaselessly that its knowledge—which is Truth—shall reach the mind; by its action the image of eternal Truth is reflected in the still waters of the Soul, as mountain peaks are mirrored in a lake. But the mind, fortified in its own conceits, demands “proofs,” forgetting that the facts of four-dimensional existence cannot be apprehended by a three-dimensional brain. —From The Three Truths, for sale by Sun Publishing Co., 42c paper, 77c cloth, postpaid.
