THE BRIDGE OF LIFE

“VERILY, verily, I say unto you: He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life.”—John 6:47.

LIFE IS A bridge over which the soul crosses from Eternity into Eternity.

Eternity is forever—ageless; swallowing itself in the cycle of creative forces, being born again into a new omnipotence, stretching out into tomorrow, enveloping all that is, that was, or ever shall be.

Man is not meant to die, but to rise, to build into a greater, a purer existence and to lift himself by the Word of God into the realms of the Heavenly Hosts.

The man Jesus was born into this world of sin and sorrow that He might lead the way, might illumine this Bridge of Life, that all crossing thereon would not become lost, but would find their way upon the glorious pathway, strengthened and sustained by His words and acts.

The bridge that we call Life is the smallest part, the shortest space of time the soul traverses, endless and tortuous as it seems.

Many are the pilgrims who accompany us as we cross this bridge; yet we are alone, separated from our fellow travelers by the plated armor of our own personalities.

Each soul is so filled with bewilderment at his plight upon earth that he takes little heed of his fellowmen and he puts on more and more armor until he is walled in a veritable stronghold containing only himself and his narrowed vision; which naturally narrows his soul force, until at last he finds himself carried along by the throng to the edge of that great adventure which men erroneously call “Eternal Sleep.”

What mischief and sorrow and sin have arisen from this one superstition—that man is born to live in misery and lives his life-span to pass out into oblivion!

It is this belief that paralyzes the senses, rendering men into malicious fools or greed-crazed beasts, when they might become Gods.
