The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | JUNE 1935

Remember the commandment. “I, thy God, am a jealous God; thou shalt put no other gods before Me.”

He who listens to the leaders of material things does put the god of self before Him.

OH GOD, be merciful unto us; show us the way.
We would follow Thee as little children, and heed Thy voice, in this wilderness of sin wherein we dwell.
Our eyes have become blinded and our ears deafened to Thee and Thy ways along the path of life.
May we hear Thee and come closer in communication to Thee. Amen.
—Through Mary and Marta

THE HOLY BREATH

SWIFT comes the quickening breath
In all-pervading coolness.
The flame of self is quenched
And dies to smoldering embers.

Behold the wraith that rises
Formless, wavering, lost;
Still blows the Breath—it spirals
Into a CROSS!

Behold again! What see ye?
A shaft of light! A Dove!
Thy cross a shimmering ANGEL!
Transformed by God above!

Now blows again the Breath
Upon those embers dying.
Close look ye then! Thine angel stoops,
Uplifts the coals—A CROWN, all shining!

Nor flesh, nor self leaves Holy Breath,
But VOICE that whispers, “I AM THEE;”
The resurrected Life, The Light, The Way—
Behold them! ALL IN ME!
