The Inner Life

THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | APRIL 1936

others, with no interest of self, must motivate them. Love in action or expression is the only evidence of true spirituality.

That means that Love must first have been born in one’s heart. When we tell you that very few people know Love—selfless Love, that it is the gift of the Holy Spirit—the First Baptism, and that it is the blossoming stage of the life of those souls who are nearing maturity, you will realize why this must be so. For you cannot help but see that the vast majority of people on earth are but children Spiritually, are concerned only with getting things for self, whether they be material, psychic or mental things or powers, and they know love only as a selfish, possessive feeling for their own—for their parents, children, family or kin.

True Love is wholly selfless, is thinking always of others and never of self, looking upon all men as brothers equally with one’s own kin, and not differentiating when anyone needs help.

Many times we have shown that the birth of Love in the heart is the entry of Christ into the outer life, similar to the opening of the blossom and the letting out into expression of the life that has been growing the stalk, but which now pushes forth and manifests its true nature.

But when Love comes to its maturity in man and completely rules the life, and the mind finally surrenders to it, there is only One Consciousness—Love’s and the Holy Spirit descends and possesses the mind, even as at the Birth of the Christ It possessed the soul; and a new Christ is anointed. Then are heard these words singing in the heart: “This is My Beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased.”

In such a one Love is the very Spirit and Life of the man, Spiritualizing him. It not only radiates from the soul as an invisible light and energy, but shines in the face of the Christed one. That light is Love—God’s Love, the very life of His Consciousness, which is all Wisdom and Power, and which now in the soul and mind of such a one has a pure and perfect channel through which it can express on earth even as in Heaven.

Jesus Christ was the perfect physical exemplification of that Love, Wisdom and Power, but He was also the Divine Idea planted in the consciousness of humanity—in the soul of every man as his Light and the source of his Life. He is actually the Ray of God’s Life in all men which lights them back to union with God.
