The Inner Life 1933
You must train this mental instrument always to wait upon you, to think only what you want it to think, to turn and look to you for everything, trusting all to you, unconcerned about results, knowing that you alone are responsible and can and will take care of everything—exactly as your hand now does.
In the doing of this—the compelling of your mind to wait upon and trust you, it will find in some remarkable way that things always work out most harmoniously and satisfactorily.
Now let us once more show you why this is so. Your mind—that part which is so concerned about everything, which now thinks it is you and is separate from that inner self that knows is responsible for its being—has no life, consciousness or power of itself, and receives all of these from that inner self.
That inner self is you, the true and only you, who have lived many lives in many bodies in many countries and conditions—and who in your present embodiment have been putting this outer you through all the experiences of life for a wise and loving purpose of your own. Until you can get your mind to know this, you are to all intents and purposes still of the earth, earthy. If you are content that it be so, then you might just as well stop here and turn to some other article, for what follows is not for you. Your soul has not yet grown to the stage where it wishes to be free from self and its creations.
If you are not content, and earnestly wish to get control of your mind and its forces and to be the master, then a determined and persistent effort must be made to get the true meaning of the above, and to begin now to practice mastery over your thinking processes, until your mind realizes fully the difference between that part of you which thinks and believes itself to be you, and that part—the real you—which directs and controls the thinking part.
This will be sufficient for the present, for we wish you to stay with this last thought until your mind gets it and actually recognizes you as that controlling and directing part.
This is the first step towards retiring consciously into your soul or true consciousness, or into the King’s Chamber, and thereby freeing yourself from the limiting conditions of the outer world, which means from your outer mind.
