IN THIS Department will be given interpretations of dreams and visions of those needing to know their inner meaning. We reserve for it only those of special interest and helpfulness.
I WISH to narrate an experience I had during a terrible time of tribulation, and just before I took up the study of the Sun Lessons. In our church—the Mormon Church—when we go through the temple, we wear a certain white garment which we are supposed to wear the rest of our lives. This garment is symbolic of the “protection” of God.
Well, a few years ago, when I began studying Psychology, New Thought, etc., my fervor for the church abated. I began to look upon forms and ceremonies of every sort as unessential, including this garment. At the time I was considering this (and this is associated with our vicarious work) I had a vivid dream.
I thought I was discarding this garment and my temple clothes, when my husband’s grandmother, who had been dead many years, stood at my side and laid her hand upon my arm, and said, “I wouldn’t be in a hurry about that.”
I shook it off as only a dream, and carried out my intentions. Several years passed, during which I made many mistakes, and then this time of great tribulation came several months ago. I almost lived on my knees. I needed God so much.
Then one morning (I will never know whether I was asleep or awake), it seemed that this garment dropped from the air above me—I didn’t see anything, but sensed it—all of it, and enveloped me, and I heard the words, “Put on the armour of God.” I put it on within and without. Will you please explain this?
Through the suffering endured in those “tribulations,” there were burned away many qualities of self, which prepared you for the new consciousness that “descended” upon and “enveloped” you as a “white garment.” The white garment required by the church you were supposed to wear as an evidence of having dedicated yourself to God, but as you were were not then ready, and had to go through the purifying fires of suffering, before your soul became clean enough to possess and worthily wear that garment—the consciousness of true consecration to Christ.
ONE NIGHT last month I seemed to be in the center of an enclosure like a fort, with white walls all around. My Teacher and I were alone. He was trying to show me how to extend my vision, “Keep on looking now at the horizon.” At first I could see only a few miles, but at his urging I kept looking, but with no apparent effort, and my vision
