The Inner Life 1933
THE ONLY THING A CHRISTMAS POEM By Evangeline Booth
THE STAR of every century’s sky This day proclaims the new-born King, The gift In which all others lie. The gift of Love, The Only Thing.
From self and wrong of every kind, I turn my hungry heart, and sing a long Farewell to all; I find
O love, thou art The Only Thing.
I dreamt of fame and wealth When young, My life then in its Glorious spring; Its autumn all my heart’s strings wrung, And taught me Love, The Only Thing.
Talk not to me of reasoning years, which Honor, fame and riches bring; They also bring their grief and tears, O love, thou art The Only Thing.
The Only Thing, yet thing of care, for Fondest hopes must taste
