The youngest member of that tensed and silent group, scarce more than youth was he, here made quick interruption and spoke excitedly, “Clearly I see high purpose in this we have heard, but what of the toll that must be paid in bringing it to pass? There are but men upon the Earth today and they unfitted for so great a task, which to me appears a labor for the gods. Life is sweet to me and to all others of my age—for them I feel a sadness like a shadow on our plan; the ‘Light’ seems not so bright, or else my vision fails; for now I think that though we aid and benefit the few, many, in constructing it, must endure slavery and death and woe.”

The interrupted speaker turned quickly to the Youth and spoke commandingly: “Be still and know! Thou fair but unthinking Youth, both thou and all the others who through the years to come will repeat thy very words of mistaken sympathy and surface thought.”

Stern were his words, but the speaker’s voice gave evidence of vast knowledge and deep love for humanity—a voice of controlled power made positive through long cycles of experience. “What know ye of that which ye have called death? Hast thou so soon forgotten our great Law that LOVE LIES UNDER ALL? How is it ye can judge of death and call it ill, when its purpose ye know not? Shall vital Truths be lost to all humanity to spare one nation or race? Thou fairest and youngest Brother of us all, ’tis evident ye know not yet that Love underlieth ALL. But for thy comfort, thou unthinking one, recall to mind the use of Power that rests with the Elder
