IN THE preceding chapter you were shown the new stage at which man had arrived in his soul evolution—to where he became an awakened or living soul, and was no longer asleep in his animal nature; he became conscious of his Higher Self, Jehovah God in the garden, which means in his soul consciousness.

“And Jehovah God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.”

Eden represents the natural consciousness of the soul, or man in this new state of being into which he had been “lifted” by the breath of life breathed into him, awakening him from the sleep state of his animal-human nature. In other words, when he became aware of his Divine Self, a Son of God, living within him, in his soul, he awakened into a new consciousness or world—that of his soul, as distinct from that of his outer mind; even as happens to one today when he is reborn through the Christ Spirit entering and abiding in his heart.

The garden eastward in Eden means that inner part of the soul consciousness nearest the Source of Light, or God’s Consciousness; that pure and perfect place in Spirit, a Paradise, where could grow only the good and perfect fruits of the Spirit which were always available for the soul’s use, even as they had been in the higher realms of the Spirit where formerly dwelt the Sons of God.
