The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | AUGUST 1934
entrance has a roof supported by huge pillars of stone, very smooth and round. The door is wide and very heavy. It is open. I walk down a long corridor, which is lighted by a figure that precedes me. A door opens, and I enter a long, low-vaulted room.
There is a long table. Seated at this table, in council, are seven. I never see their faces. No word is spoken. We are in Silence—a Stillness so vast—a Silence so full, I cannot describe it. They sit with folded hands. One takes a tablet. On it is written what I am to see—or know.
At first I saw only the seven—later only the tablet. I seem while there to have received some wonderful message to bring back. Seldom can I recall any part of it. But the realization of our need to learn the method of drawing from the Universal Substance all that we need, has been very clear—that and the necessity of giving—giving—giving.
First I knew that to give money was nothing, because that could not, in its very nature, buy anything of value in the Kingdom. Then I thought “Love” would be the medium, but realized that while Love is the fulfilling of the law, it would require action—power, and a love higher than our human concept to compass it.
Wednesday my friend brought me the May and June numbers of THE INNER LIFE, and the articles in them, “The Banker,” sum it up well. But it is condensed in this statement: “The power and the practice of universal, impersonal, loving Service, in immediate response to an expressed or unexpressed need!”
Why could I not remember it before? For that was what was given me on the tablet; it almost seems words! That is the key that unlocks God’s Storehouse.
But it is for the use of all—not of any one alone—certainly not of self. I was shown that we are so surrounded by this Substance that our needs—no, we have no needs, actually, for “all these things are added.”—
