which you have not built a picture or concept of in your mind. And it is these pictures that you see and which are all that you see. This has been shown you very clearly in previous articles.

The consideration of these things requires not a little exercise of the will and the imagination, and if you have put the thought upon it necessary to grasp fully our meaning, it has prepared your mind for a still more abstract subject for study.

We ask you now to try to realize, when you think, or give birth to a thought, and you animate and motivate it with your intelligence, and especially when you send it forth, either consciously or unconsciously, to accomplish some purpose, that of itself it cannot go anywhere or do anything, but that some unseen and very real force or power must carry out your will and accomplish the purpose you instilled into your thought.

In other words, you can think a thought, can animate it with life, and can fill it with desire; but that is as far as you can go. Something else must accomplish what you desire or will, if it is to be brought to fruition. What does it?

Can you conceive that all force of whatever kind—anything that moves, whether in air, fire, water or earth, is the action of an elemental being of some kind belonging to the sub-human kingdom? These beings are commonly called elementals, in order to designate and classify their function and place in the scale of life; and their name indicates their nature, for they actually constitute the elements, and which we recognize in the wind of storms, in the flames of fire, in the waves of the ocean, and in the earth movements and earthquakes of the land.

But there are many kinds of elementals. They are of many orders and degrees, belonging and working as they do in the four kingdoms of nature—mineral, vegetable, animal and human. All of them being sub-human, they naturally live and work close to man, in order that they may be quickened by his vibrations and thereby may be quickened by them as much as their nature allows, thus tending to prepare them for and evolve them eventually into the human kingdom.
