faith no greater in size than a mustard seed can remove mountains. Certainly there are mountains of rubbish to be removed caused by the destructive thought-stuff man carries around in his subconscious mind.

Let us observe the Indian medicine man in his method of treating a sick woman, a servant in the household of Mary Austin. Her case was diagnosed as abscess on the lung with the statement she would die in a few days. The Indian woman begged for the medicine doctor of her tribe. He was sent for and came just after dusk accompanied by two or three other Indian men. The sick woman was unable to speak by this time.

He explained that he called the Divine principle, which he contacted in treatment, Friend of the Soul of Man—something alive and kindly. The Medicine Man examined the patient, tapped and percussed her body very gently over the area of the abscess. He wrapped her body in warm clothes and put heat at her feet. Then with the other Indians he went into a dance with singing and the rhythmic rattle of a gourd. The woman moaned.

After an hour or so the sick woman slept. Then the Medicine Man fell into a trance-like sleep for twenty minutes, rousing himself to say he had met or touched the “Friend of the Soul of Man,” and in another hour or so the woman could be alive again. She slept on and the weird noises and rattle continued two hours longer. The Medicine Man slept also. At dusk the patient sat up, threw off great quantities of bloody sputum, and asked for something to eat. She was healed and made a rapid recovery.

I hear you say, what a silly procedure? Was it? Let us analyze it. First, he brought several Indians with him who made up the “two or three gathered together in His Name,” which works wonders when we have faith. The rhythmic noise and rattle of the gourd with the swaying of the body in dancing stilled the Medicine Man’s mind so he could unify it with the One Mind and be free from disturbing thoughts. He then saw the woman healed; he spoke the word that she was whole and perfect; through his faith and knowledge of Truth he touched the “Friend of the Soul of Man” in consciousness, unified his consciousness with that perfect Life Principle, and because he had faith and knew that God the Eternal Essence and Spirit of Life,
