The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | JUNE 1933
THE ABOVE is an excellent illustration of the experience of those who seemingly go out of their bodies the first time. It is most interesting because told from the soul consciousness, and because of the object lesson it conveys.
Those who wish to have a good soul exercise, we suggest they try to follow and view the experience from the inner realm of consciousness, instead of the outer; thus more clearly learning the difference, and getting a better understanding of what is the soul.
What is it that leaves the body in sleep when dreaming? It can be nothing more than the consciousness of the brain mind removing to some inner realm of consciousness. We have learned that the individualized consciousness is the soul, and consequently when it is centered in the brain mind, we can say that the ordinary soul is involved in and held by the body. But during sleep the consciousness or soul is released from the body and naturally enters an inner realm of consciousness where it is attracted by some thought or desire in such realm that has dominated the outer mind at the time, or it is there led by the Higher Self, in order to teach it some needed lesson.
In the above case the mind was being taught the meaning of such temporary leaving of the body, and at the same time was being shown some of the petty negative qualities that still existed and which needed to be handled and eliminated.
The man and woman trying to foist “Æsop” on her as a teacher symbolized the quality of vanity that played upon her mind until it could see it for just what it was. The three women symbolized the qualities of liking to be praised, to be paid homage, and to be thought much of, and which came with their porcelain flowers to flatter and deceive, until shown up by the Higher Self.
