The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | JANUARY 1933
AN ALLEGORY
By Theo. Carstens
DEAR EDITOR:
I have been hopefully waiting for a reply to my last letter with its enclosed article. But in the meanwhile I have given more thought to the subject matter of the article, which I was happy to find aroused interest in you. It struck me that to present a picture like that and give it true power, it must be accompanied by a picture giving also the negative aspect. That first picture represents the positive side of the question, and the human mind seemingly resists either a negative or positive viewpoint when presented alone. So I made a request for the negative side in order that by presenting both, each reader could draw a conclusion adapted to his own capacity to benefit by it. The enclosed is the answer to my request, and I am submitting it for what it means to you. You will note that the human follies it records are not mere fair stories, but actual happenings that can be verified from the news files of 1931.
I feel that if it were possible to present these two pictures in the vivid form in which I see them (and which my descriptive ability so poorly portrays) simultaneously, or one immediately following the other, to every man oppressed by our economic system, it would rock our social organization to its foundation and perhaps start the world on the way to a new order of life such as represented by the other picture. Knowing that only the highest powers could present such pictures effectually, and that man can only broadcast them in a limited way, I do not see more than a ripple in a few minds should anyone attempt to broadcast these truths at present.
It is interesting that these pictures came in reversed order. The second should in our time precede the first. I have noticed often that an idea coming from Spirit usually presents itself with the past and future opposite to our time, and on consideration that is perfectly explainable.
(We deem it best to accompany the following article with the above letter that came with it. You will note that the article is an allegorical representation of where we have arrived in our present civilization. The other picture, showing what is not only possible,
