The Inner Life

or vibrations caused the hand to move around the dial to the figure showing the degree of their mental power. Those of weak minds were refused membership, as the requirements and tests would be too great for such to meet in a lifetime.
Dr. B. motioned for me to come forward and stand before it. I did so. I looked the dial square in its face. Sure enough the hand-indicator began to move around the dial and slowed down at the three-quarter mark. I did not know what good or average mental strength was supposed to be, but I believed the Infinite Power within me would make the indicator revolve many times, and no sooner thought that, than it did.
Dr. B. motioned me away from it, saying, “You must be trying to break it. This machine is very old, dating back to antiquity many thousands of years. If broken, the Rosicrucian Brotherhood would never be able to replace it.”

It was explained from an occult standpoint and told that it was really possible, but that only the oldest members of the Rosicrucian Brotherhood have been able to do this. I believed the Infinite Power within could dematerialize me and rematerialize me on the other side, and instantly did.
The Doctor now showed real antagonism and resentment towards me. I was no longer his friend. I had accomplished in seconds what but a few of the very high initiates of the Rosicrucian Brothers had been able to do in an entire lifetime of practice.
As we left the Lodge and returned to the city, I walked behind the others. I did a lot of thinking and reasoning. I had been invited with all of the other students interested in metaphysics to
