attend this occult Brotherhood. I was a nobody, and in an occult or metaphysical sense an outsider.

True the Doctor’s lecture was not new to me, as it was to the hundred other people, as I had read and read such things many times, and had required my mind and intellect to seek, reason out and know by its own efforts all these “higher” facts, truths and laws; yet I had not seen fit to practice them, or to cultivate any occult ability whatsoever.

I had accepted all this as truth but had rejected in favor of a better and higher method. All these occult feats that had required years or an entire life time to master, I, a novice, a nobody, had done in a matter of minutes—all and everything that these great occult brothers did, and without any effort or preparation. And I meant nothing to me. By using just one formula I seemingly had transcended the occult path—by a belief in an Infinite Presence Power within me, plus a faith that it would do whatever I required of it.

I also reasoned that these hundred interested spectators or prospective students, compared to the brothers of the Order, were very undeveloped, untrained, ignorant, and in a child’s state of unfoldment; while these brothers seemingly, compared to me and my method, were likewise childish, undeveloped, slow and cumbersome in their unfoldment.

I was sad and sorrowful that I had lost Dr. B. as a friend, and had incurred the Brotherhood’s displeasure.

OUR FRIEND in his dream had unfolded to him a very great truth. There are many thousands of earnest seekers following the occult path of knowledge, believing it is the way to liberation and the Kingdom of God. And it is, for until they learn there is a higher way.

Why did our friend instinctively know this, and why was he able to do in a moment easily what it took occult initiates years to master? Because he knew, had been taught all through the occult path in past lives—and had learned that it was not the way, the truth and the life; that the way lay within, and until the disciple—the outer mind—had been taught and brought to surrender all desire for power, for mastery, to the Loving Christ in
