The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | MARCH 1933
self and its interests, are still in the lower realms of the desire world close up against the physical, and are what are called “earthbound.”
Now as we have shown in previous articles, the souls of those on earth are actually mingling with and dwelling with all those out of the body who are on the same plane of consciousness as themselves, although few are aware of this in their brain minds. This must be so, because their souls live in those soul realms to which their consciousness is attuned, and in those realms naturally dwell all souls similarly attuned, whether in or out of the body. Which explains why we do not change when we die; we merely discard our outer garments of flesh, and then are in our soul bodies, in the same consciousness our souls were in before death.
You will notice that we speak of souls and not “spirits” when mentioning the inhabitants of the inner world, for it is our souls that live there, while our Spirit, which dwells in the soul as our soul dwells in the body, is something far higher and greater than the soul. It is that essence of God spoken of as the “Light which lighteth every man that cometh into the world;” the “Light which dwelleth in the darkness and the darkness knoweth it not.” Which means, the Light which dwells deep within the consciousness until the soul is “reborn,” permitting the Light to illuminate and abide in and guide it thereafter.
In other words, this Light is the Christ Spirit, which comes forth when the soul is ripened and unfolded, even as the spirit of the rose comes forth and expresses itself in its fragrance and beauty when its soul is ripened and its bud unfolds into the blossom. The Christ Spirit is the Higher and Divine Self of man that enters and abides in the soul when Love is allowed to rule the mind and life
