I AM WRITING you of an extraordinary experience I had while nursing the woman who was suddenly obsessed and was later released through the Spoken Word, as per my letter to you of this week.

Early this morning I went to purchase a daily paper and had just reentered the yard and was latching the gate, when I heard a great rushing of hoofs, and looking up I saw coming toward me three milk cows belonging to the woman I am nursing. A few moments before I had seen them grazing peacefully on a knoll some distance away; so you can imagine my amazement to see them charging down upon me.

I was so taken by surprise, owing to the friendliness of these dear animals in the past, that I could hardly believe they were rushing toward me; but when it became certain that the spot where I stood was where they were heading, I hadn’t time to call upon our Father God for protection—there was no time even to think. When they were within a foot of me, and death seemed inevitable, I was conscious of an inner voice directing me to raise my arms horizontally at my sides, extending them out straight, thus forming with my body a cross.

While at the time the cross did not occur to me, yet through putting my arms up in the form of a cross, my life was saved; for evidently the cross must have become a blaze of light to the animals; for instead of knocking me down, the instant my arms were raised, all three cows were thrown back on their hind legs and forced to turn in another direction, when they raced from me as if I had been an object of great terror to them. They ran through fences and headed straight for their barn, nearly knocking down an old man of eighty who happened to be in their path.

After I had regained my sense of balance, I started toward the house; but I was warned from within that this whole experience had come as a result of my speaking the Word of the Master to that patient a few days before. I knew at once that this force had used these dear peaceful friends of mine, the cows, as instruments
