individual Race-Groups. Wordless, baffled and chagrined at such outcome to their hopes, they formed a quiet, humbled Group.

The silence deepened, grew intense, each member wrapped in his own thoughts. Suddenly a Voice was heard that seemed to come from somewhere in their midst—“Why seek the cure for enmity outside of man himself? Why be distressed about the Many when there is but One? Does any man discriminate against one color in his nation’s flag? Does some one design in it meet with his favor, and another his ill-will? In truth what means a flag does it not symbolize the Many joined in One? I bid you now to follow the analogy between these little national flags and ONE I shall describe to you.”

“Red-man I have chosen you outstandingly to portray the attributes of courage, silence and endurance, whenever there is need. Remember always that thy color indicates the presence of great strength, joy and activity through vitality and LIFE.

“Black-man hear now my use for you. Thy color gives relaxation, with its healing power and meditative pause within, whose grateful darkness all Nature evolves. Tranquility and rhythm come easily through you, who should know naught of cruel competition and destructive nervous strain, for Black means the absence of all colors save your own, and indicates a natural state of HEALTH.

“Yellow-man, thy color indicates that august and most honorable of states—INTELLIGENCE; be it the orange yellow of the Sun or the honey color of the Moon, it is ever symbolical of Light, known anciently as ‘Wisdom,’ the high gift of the Gods.

“Brown-man, thy color suggests effort, for to thee has been entrusted the part of blending the various peoples
