The Inner Life
THE HERALD OF THE NEW AGE | JULY 1935
DOES GOD DO ALL THINGS?
“Yes, it is I Who cause you to do all things, and if you can see it, it is I Who do all things that you do, and all things that your brother does; for that in you and in him which IS, is I, My Self.” —The Impersonal Life.
IN THE Impersonal Life there are several statements, conveying the same meaning as the above, that have caused more than a few earnest students to hesitate about accepting their truth, despite all of the other great truths in the book that they do accept and that greatly impress them.
They cannot believe that it is God Who does all that man does—Who causes him to commit sins and crimes and do all the evil things that are done in the world. There are those who say that because of these statements it proves that The Impersonal Life is not an inspired Message, that it does not come from the high source its words would indicate, and that the one through whom it came was misled and certainly mistaken.
This article is written to prove the truth of the words of these statements in the book and to make their truth so clear that all who read may know God as perhaps they have never known Him before.
It is difficult for us to understand, however, how anyone, who has carefully and understandingly studied the book, could not grasp the real meaning of those words; for the whole chapter and especially what precedes the statement above, on page 21, and what follows, leave one with no other conclusion than that God must do or cause all things that are done to be done. Let us repeat some of it:
“Yes, I AM that innermost part of you that sits within, and calmly waits and watches, knowing neither time nor space; for I AM the Eternal and fill all space.
“I watch and wait for you to be done with your petty human follies and weaknesses, with your vain longings, ambitions and regrets, knowing that will all come in time; and then you will turn to Me, weary, discouraged, empty and humble, and ask Me to take the lead, not realizing that I have been leading you all the time.
